Bigil – Movie review

Michael/Bigil is the main protagonist is an influential personality in his area, even the local Minister Succumbs to his words. Michael though branded as a local Don does gains respect from his locality and maintains control helps those in need. When the opposite gang attempts to kill him his close friend Kathir (Kathir) a football coach gets injured seriously and his women football team is left in desperate situation. Kathir asks Michael to take up his position and asks him to lead the team to victory. What follows is the flashback of Michael’s life as Bigil and how he takes the team to victory is the rest of the story.

Though Vijay’s performance as the Coach Michael takes command in the second half, the first half is taken by the Dual role of that of his father Rayappan. Even as many comments came as he wasn’t up to the mark as an elderly character, his role as Rayappan still stands out in the movie. With extra spicy masala by Atlee in dialogues and mass scenes which rocks Vijay’s fans in the theater, Bigil scores high on entertainment. Nayanthara was carefully placed throughout the film, but could have been replaced by any heroine as she did not have space to perform. Jackie Shroff was best to his role and was decent. With other small performances gets highlighted by induja, Reba Monica John, Indraja Shankar & Amritha Aiyer . The main culprit is the long first half which takes its own time to fall into the story. It could have been cut short by 20mins easily, which means to cut off the whole of Vijay;s romantic angle which doesn’t fit in this film.Action scenes were well choreographed VFX was decent, though the slow Mo’s were very obvious and used in frequent. Bigil still manages to score high on women empowerment and make it way high in the box office. I give it 6/10

Kaithi – Movie review

On the eve of the IG’s retirement party, the anti narcotic team led by  Bejoy(Narain) and his team confiscate a huge consistent of dugs entering the city of tricky. They hide the drugs under a secret basement tunnel under the commissioner’s office along with the people caught with it . The Mafia gang led by Anbu( Arjun Das) is in search of the drug and wants to kill the team who took his drugs. He also drugs the alcohol in the IG’s party and all the police chiefs who are present their are left sedated except for Bejoy who didn’t drink. Mean while the commissioner’s office is also left with only one head constable and a few youngsters arrested for drunk and drive case. Now Bejoy has to take all the cops to a hospital and also save the drugs at the commissioner’s office which is left unguarded from the Mafia . He left only with one person Dilli (Karthi) a prisoner who is on parole to meet his only daughter. Bejoy convinces Dilli to take all the cops in a lorry to the hospital, and to take him to the commissioner’s office , in return to free him and take care of his daughter future. How they survive the night is the rest of the story.
Lokesh kanakaraj who directed Managaram comes up with yet another thriller which takes place in one night. With no heroine, no songs, no punch dialogues and no mass entry scene by the hero this movie still makes the audience entertained and in sit in their edge of their seats till the end. Karthi fits the role naturally and takes control of the movie accompanied by Narain and Dheena who perform well. Best comes from George Mariyam as the head constable who is stuck inside the commissioner’s office all alone. Music by Sam CS and cinematography by Sathyan Sooriyan’s make the story telling complete. Background score is well supportive and camerawork which has only the night as the backdrop was well captured. It’s the length of the movie which becomes the culprit , atleast 10 – 15 mins could have been less.climax was a bit over cooked. i give it 6/10

Oththa Seruppu Size -7 – movie review

Othatha Seruppu size 7 is produced, conceived and acted by one and only Parthiban. The story starts with the interrogation of Masilamani ( Parthiban) who is brought in as a suspect of a brutal murder of a business man. As the interrogation starts, Masilamani shows unusual behaviour which diverts the cops to different conclusions , but as Masilamani confesses not to one but more murders , the cops understand Masilamani is not a common man but a man with a serious motive.
What makes this movie unique is the way Parthiban conceived this movie showing only one character in the frame till the end. All others characters register only thru voice , but the way Parthiban has conceived each other character and the way it has been interpreted to the story makes it seam less and we barely miss them as actors. Cinematographer Ramji plays a unique role in framing each shot which gives Parthiban as an actor to perform and as a director to conceive the story. Parthiban provides twists in exact places were the story gets slow, and keeps the momentum high till the end.music and BGM keeps us engaged till the end. Though I was very skeptical in seeing the film , based on his previous experimental attempts . this proved the best of his films. A must watch, I give it 9/10

Asuran – Movie review

Asuran is a adaption of Poomani’s novel “Vekkai”, directed by Vetri Karan and lead played by Dhanush. The film starts with Sivaswamy (Dhanush) and his Chidambaram (Ken) are on the run from the mob of the upper caste as tension rises in the village after a murder has happened. His wife Pacchaiamma (Manju Warrier)and younger daughter are also on the run in the opposite direction to misdirect the mob. We are then told about Sivaswamy’s family history and how people of their community are swindled of ancestral land by the upper caste. But Sivaswamy being a Pacifist always does what’s right to the family and evades trouble by being neutral. Trouble starts when his eldest son Murugan (Tee Jay) opposes Narasimhman ( Aadukalam Neran) and humiliates him. What follows are a series of events which turns the family upside down. How Sivaswamy guides his family away from danger is the rest of the movie.

The combo of Dhanush and VetriMaran is itself elevates the movie’s expectations . Though it might seem like a simple plot, Dhanush’s acting takes the movie to different heights. Dhanush relives the character not just physically , but by heart too. His transformation into character is what might has been the best performance by him so far. Manju Warrier too performs well in her given screen time. Vetri Maaran brings the best in each of the cast in their character which completes the film. Especially the two boys Ken and TeeJay who play the sons of Dhanush . GV prakash’s music plays an integral part in the film. That said the second half becomes a bit dragged which leads to a predictable ending. Asuran stands tall with Dhanush’s performance. I give it 7/10

Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy – Movie review

The Movie starts midst battle between Jhansi Rani and the British, were her troops are outnumbered and are ready to surrender themselves. Jhansi Rani then tell the troops the story of Narasimha reddy who started the revolt in the south against the British which eventually spread to all corners of the country. Set in Renaadu in the 1840’s , Narasimha reddy was one of the 16 palegars under the British East India company, though they were under the British, he was groomed under guru Gosayi Venkanna (Amitabh Bachan) waiting for the right moment to go against the British. But as the British increase their unjust treatment, Narasimha Reddy gathers all the 16 palagars and kick starts the revolution, how far does he go is the rest of the story.

Mega Star Chiranjeevi takes control of the movie from the beginning, and mesmerizes till the end. Director Surender Reddy doesn’t overdo the story with lot of emotions which is the plus and the minus of the film. The grandeur was just right in the film and did not dominate the story. The cast was well chosen and had equal weightage throughout which worked well. Both the leading ladies Nayanthara and Tammanah had equal screen time in which they could do justice in their performances. VFX was does too good and seamless. Cinematography by Rathnavelu was done well to capture the essence of the ancient India. The Duration was a little long in the second half and climax was a bit too heavy, other than that the film is a must watch, I give it 6/10
