Iron Man 3 movie review

Iron Man 3

In this third installment of the iron series, Tony Stark/Iron Man fights world terrorism from a formidable terrorist called the Mandarin and facing his inner demons after his near death experience which he faced in the war with the aliens(Avengers the movie).

It’s all RD.Jr all the way in this film; he has delivered a good performance. The style and screen presence is unmatched as Tony Stark and the Iron man. He is the 007 of super heroes .The action sequences were all very well executed. I enjoyed the unbelievable “Barrel of Monkeys” sequence in the sky. CG and Vfx sequences were near to realism but could have been better. The end explosive waterfront action sequence was awesome and I liked the range of Iron man robots displayed. The villain soldiers reminded me of terminator robots maybe it was their gleaming red eyes .Dialogue sequences were as long and boring may be the editor could have tightened those parts in the film. I always liked a twist in the story but not at the cost of an honorable Actor Sir Ben Kingsley. I watched it in 3D as they said it was shot 3D but I was disappointed. lot of pot holes in the story but the action sequence make you forget it . Marvel comic fans will be disappointed  but as an Iron Man film fan you won’t.

Iron man 3 ends with lots of questions unanswered as a story, but  I am still looking forward to the iron man in Avengers 2. I give the film 7/10

Udhayam NH4 Movie Review

Udhayam NH4

Ritika(Ashrita)  and Prabhu(Siddharth) elope. Aware of the damage it could cause to his political career Ritika’s father chooses not to press charges and, therefore, seeks the help of an encounter specialist, Manoj Menon. So the movie is set in NH4 in which the two try to escape from Bangalore to Chennai with the Cop chasing them.

With a very familiar story line, I waited for a twist or something different to happen in the film but I was disappointed till the end. The movie was dragging from scene to scene. Except for Siddharth and Kay Kay Menon the rest of the cast were the worst selected lot for themovie. Ashrita is pretty and certainly has the charm, but she can’t act for sure. We know that this movie happens in Bangalore but making the actors speak Tamil with Kannadika accent was the biggest mistake, it was like watching junoon in Tamil. The worst dubbing and lip sync done for a movie, it was irritating to watch the mismatch between video and audio. This movie might be loved by teenagers for the main plot but fails in all other aspects as a film.National Highway 4 might be shortest and most popular route between Chennai and Bangalore, but Udhayam NH4 becomes the longest and the boring movie of 2013. I give it 2/10

Oblivion – Movie review

The date is 2077, and Earth has been reduced to barren plains and ruined landmarks following a war with aliens. Cruise plays Jack Harper a former marine commander and one of the last remaining men on the planet. His job is to act as a maintenance mechanic, repairing faulty Drones. He’s partnered with Victoria (Andrea Riseborough), with whom he shares a space tower working as a mop up crew.

One of the most beautiful looking sci-fi films I have seen in a very long time. Striking futuristic  visuals and some extraordinary work from the cinematographer Claudio Miranda (Life of Pi and Tron legacy). But the film itself lacks a serious story. It just drags itself towards end occasionally filling the screen with dramatic landscapes and visual effects. If it wasn’t for Tom cruise the film would have collapsed midway. Tom Cruise plays his part naturally but very low- key in the film. Morgan Freeman is wasted in the film, any senior Hollywood actor could have played his part. The so called twists in between the film make the audience wonder whether to continue seeing it.

Oblivion drags you to an obvious ending making this movie be a big hit or a big miss. I give it 5/10

Settai – Movie review

UTV Motion Pictures, one of the biggest production houses in the film industry today, presents ‘Settai’, a remake of the Hindi film ‘Delhi Belly’.

One of my favorite Director once told me if you making a bilingual or a remake, you cannot change source ingredient of the movie for each of them based on its culture. And If you have no choice it’s better not to do it at all. But Settai did that and ended being a poor reproduction of its original. I was excited to see Arya and Santhanam  together  after Boss Engira Baskaran’ and expected more when Premji was also included in the cast. But all three disappointed in their performances .Santhanam alone was a comic relief with his trademark abusive comedy. Premji’s character had nothing to do in this film and yet he gets a solo song (which is not worth a second look).

Hansika Motawni and Anjali play the female leads, both share equal amount of screen time and play glamour dolls all through the film. Costumes made the female leads look better but rest of the charaters were given rags and Arya costumes were tasteless and badly selected.

Settai is, sadly, a disappointment. I give it 4/10

G.I. Joe: Retaliation – Movie review

G.I. Joe: Retaliation is the second installment in a franchise based on a popular line of toys created by Hasbro. In this sequel the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.

A sequel in Hollywood movies is rarely a box office hit, and doesn’t always appeal to the audience. But this movie ended up collecting nearly 80 million worldwide in its first weekend, even when it’s not even close to 10% of its first installment. A complicated story line which is not needed as everyone knows G.I.Joes’s are there to save the world in the end. Lots of talky portions and less Action sequences (except for the snow mountain fight and the climax sequence) make it tough to sit through the film. Releasing this film in 3D is only to charge you more through the 3D glasses, not a sequence in the film was shot intended for 3D viewing.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation is still an overall disappointing film. The cast alone makes you to sit through the film. Bruce Willis’s gives some comic relief to GI Joe’s team which was needed whenever there wasn’t a gun fight.

I give it 4/10

Chennaiyil Oru Naal – Movie review

Chennaiyil oru naal

Based on the Malayalam film ‘Traffic’, Chennaiyil Oru Naal intertwines the lives of certain characters and connects them through one common incident. The mission is to transport a heart from Chennai to Vellore, approximately 150 km, in about 90 minutes.

The film lacks screenplay to support the story. With numerous sub plots with different groups of characters who disappear halfway through the film makes the 2hr movie boring. Initially, the film struggles to develop tension, but when it finally tries to show some, the audience loose interest in the film. Prakash raj and Cheran were only ones who stick to their characters, all others are loosely fitted in the mismatched jigsaw puzzle. It’s an unwanted cameo by Suriya during the critical point of film. the Director goes for an ineffective modification as the original version ‘Traffic’ didn’t have a special appearance by any other actors .why does he have to come as a movie Actor who asks his fans to help for cause, when they already have character in the film playing a role of a movie star .Maybe the producers wanted Surya in their cast for publicity reasons but was a total disaster and doesn’t appeal with the audience. I give it 3/10
