Super Deluxe – Movie review

Super deluxe starts consists of four stories each deviating the moral code which the society follows. A couple caught in a bizarre murder situation. A father returning home as a transgender after seven years to meet his family. Four Adolescent boys who bunk school to watch porn, only to find out that one of their friends mother is in that film. A suicidal man who escapes death in the tsunami, who believes God as saved him to save mankind. Each of These stories tells you about moral and ethics which the society allows to evolve according to their ease which in turn forget about humanity.
Thiagarajan Kumaraja who comes after a long break from his first film, meticulously Chooses lead actors to play extreme characters which elevates the film to a different level. Samantha and Fahad Fazil compete with each other in their episode, while Vijay Sethupathy’s reactions gives us goosebumps. Bhagavathi Perumal steals the shows in couple of scenes , but might be a little artificial towards the end. Ramya Krishnan might have be given the least screen space but is in top of her performance in which she appears. Mysskin’s acting was the only one on the downside. The best comes from Ashwanth Ashokumar the youngest actor of the cast who plays Rasukutty. While cinematography by P S Vinod and Nirav Shah takes us inside each story, music by Yuvan and sound design by Tapas Nayak completes the film in the narration. Kudos for the whole team. The film gets 8/10

Airaa – Movie review

Yamuna (Nayanthaara) an young journalist is waiting for chance to prove herself but is wasted by her editor by writing a boring domestic columns. Her idea to move the content to the digital medium is also is encouraged. Added to this her parents are constantly pushing her to get married. All this suffocates her , and she decides to take a break and visit her grandmother in her native place. Their she gets an idea to start a YouTube channel based on paranormal and ghost stories which becomes a hit. But she also feels a haunting presence in the house. Meanwhile a parallel story follows Amuthan( Kalaiarasan) who is has lost someone in an accident. When he tries to meet or find people who are involved in the accident , he finds them dead under mysterious circumstances. How these deaths are connect to Yamuna forms the the rest of the story.
Nayanthaara in the recent time has experimented with new directors and different genre. this is also one of them. Though the story follows the horror pattern, sentiment overtakes and works. Nayanthaara carries both the dual roles with ease and dominates the screen. There are moments where admire The lady super star, this movie would not worked without her.KalaiArasan has also done a decent job in his character. The first half needlessly wanders around but the second half has the best content of the film. Horror scenes too doesn’t have much of impact as we see nothing new.The core of the film which is based on the butterfly effect was not exploited in the screenplay. The director could have just elaborated the second part of the story which could have worked better. It give the film 4/10

Ispade Rajavum Idhaya Raniyum – Movie review

Gautham(Harish Kalyan) is a short tempered young man which was cultivated through his parents break-up in his childhood days. Since then he is often caught into trouble. His only peaceful moments are with his friends ((Bala Saravanan and Ma Ka Pa Anand). He meets Tara (Shilpa Manjunath) a practical, self-centred girl in uncommon incidents. Their contrasting character pulls them together and they fall in love. When Tara’s family decide to marry her to their family friend’s son, things get out of hand between Tara and Gautham. Gautham’s uncontrollable anger often hurt’s Tara feelings who finally decides to move away from him. Will they get back together ? that forms rest of the story.

Though we have seen hundreds of stories with the same story line, Ispade Rajavum Idhaya Raniyum  stands unique in its story telling especially in the first half. Harish Kalyan once again proves that he can carry a full film on his shoulders, with a right story and direction he can achieve his stardom. Shilpa Manjunath though looks older than Harish in the film, still manages to bring the charm between their characters. The first half breezes through and keeps us engaged, the second is a big let-down as the director fails to hold the film , an easy 15 mins can be reduced with unwanted scenes. Ma Ka Pa and Bala saravanan though brings us few laughter, could have been better. This film still manages a 5/10

Boomerang – Movie review

Doctors suggest a face transplant, where Shakti’s face is placed on Siva’s to rectify his face. Siva recovers and starts a new life with Shakti’s face. But suddenly he becomes a prime target and he is been constantly put in harm’s way . he narrowly escapes a n accident and he is chased by goons. Soon he discovers that he is mistaken as Shakti , So he begins to track Shakti’s life . who is Shakti and what’s his past is the rest of the story.

Atharvaa is one of the actors who is constantly in look out for contrasting roles and stories, this movie provides a decent scope for him to excel, and he has done a decent job. Director also has provide enough elements as a mixture in the screenplay to make the audience sit throughout. Induja too performs even though her little screen space. Satish was a disaster in the film and was the irritating element in the film. RJ balaji also has decent role and performed well. Music was a big let-down , so was VFX  which was used in crucial scene. Movie with lot of loop hole still manages to avoid the ugly face due to short duration and crisp editing. The movie gets 4/10

Captain Marvel – Movie review

Kree warrior Vers ( Brie Larson) is trained by her mentor Yon-Rogg (Jude Law) as a soldier in the Starforce. She has lost her memory and only gets flashes of her past in her dreams. While she goes on a mission to bring back on of their spies from their shape shifting enemies the skrulls, she lands up in earth . With the help of agent Fury ( Samual l.Jackson) she regains lost memories on earth she realizes her own powers and she comes face to face with the real enemy. How she does that is the rest of the story.

As the story slowly starts we see why Brie Larson was chosen for the role of Captain Marvel, she fits perfectly as Captain Marvel and dominates throughout. Though some more effort on humour would be valuable. Samuel L Jackson provides the humour and plays the side kick to captain marvel.  Simply one of the best origin films of the marvel team. It amazes me how the whole Marvel characters are connected and eagerly waiting for her part on the Avengers End Game. The film gets 6/10

Thadam – Movie review

Ezhil ( Arun Vijay) is an Architect and runs his own construction business, his look alike Kavin is fraudster and thief who is also compulsive gambler. Ezhil’s life becomes happier as he finds love from Deepika and both move towards marriage. Kavin’s life is always hanging by a thread and is on the run for money everyday. Both theirs lives collide when they both are charged for the same murder. With both having a tragic past between them, the police are struck clueless on the murder. While the Inspector plans to pin the murder on Ezhil for a previous score between them, sub-inspector Malar ( Vidya) tries to solve the murder on her own. Who is the murderer? and what is the connection between Ezhil and Kavin is the rest of the story.

Though Duals roles are common in the tamil industry, Thadam has a unique story which keeps the audience busy till the end. Arun Vijay has done a good job and single handedly carries the whole film on his shoulders.  Both the roles have been done well by Arun. The love interests of both the Character done by Tanya Hope and Meera gave decent performance in their limited screen space. The weakling in the cast was Vidya Pradeep as she failed to utilise her strong role and gives a weak performance. Yogi babu does his part and makes it lively .The story catches up after a slow intro on the characters but pickups midway and takes us fast to the end. Though there may be holes in the screenplay and few logic mistakes this fast paced second half keeps the audience engaged. Song drag the story a bit, other technical aspects were decent. I give the film 6/10
