Madha Yaanai Koottam – Movie review

madha yaanai

Madha Yaanai Koottam
Popular music director G V Prakash Kumar’s maiden production, Madha Yaanai Koottam released this Christmas . The film starts with the funeral ceremony of Jayakodi Thevar a powerful chief of his community in Theni . Even though he is seen as a leader to the community , he is under scrutiny as he has two wives. First wife Sevanamma leaves him  and lives with his brother Veera Thevar. Jayakodi Thevar lives with his second wife Prema, his son Parrthi (kathir)and daughter Deepa. There is always tension when the two families when they cross paths. This tension is blown out of proportion when Jayakodi Thevar passes away.
The story starts of in a novel way when Jayakodi Thevar’s life is being told by the village mourners. The film captures the customs and rituals of the community, which plays the key element in the film. The songs and background score by N R Raghunanthan and cinematography by Ragul Dharuman,  are the highlight in the films, they have to be praised for their jobs well done. With the key elements well thought of , the films still lacks the presence of good acting and a screenplay to support the story. The film drops to slow motion in the second half and makes you drowsy. The predictable ending makes it even worse. Oviya’s acting was artificial and Kathir’s  acting needs guidance . This film needed a better star cast for the lead characters. I give the film 4/10

Biriyani – Movie review

Biriyani Movie Review
Sugan (Karthi) and Parasu (Premji) are childhood friends who also work together . Sugan flirts with all women even though he has a steady girlfriend and in times makes Parasu the scape goat whenever he gets caught. On the occasion of thier new showroom opening in Aambur , Sugan impresses the chief guest the high profile industrialist Varadarajan (Nazar) and gets invited to a party. Sugan and Parasu leave early as the party ends up boring and decide to return to chennai. Since Sugan has the habit of eating Biriyani after he drinks they search for a Biriyani hotel and land up on a highway joint. There they are lured by a sexy woman to a resort and get wasted drinking that night. The next day Sugan and Parasu finds themselves in a mess with the Varadarajan’s body in their car, with no memory of what happened in the night. What happened that night and will they escape from this Predicament is the rest of the story.
Karthi was in for a Hat-trick of flops if this film doesn’t do well. But Venkat Prabhu has managed to pull out a success with his Biriyani with a mix of different masala in it .Even though the first half goes aimless with Karthi’s and Premji’s comedy scenes , it picks momentum by the interval block. With some twists and turn in the story the audiences are kept busy till the end .Hansika does a brief role as Karhti’s love interest but doesn’t have much to do. A long list of actors are given a equal share of screen space and characters in the film. Yuvan’s work is very mediocre for his 100th film , and Sakthi Saravanan’s cinematography does do anything different either. This Biriyani has less rice and too much masala in it. I give it 4/10

Dhoom 3 – Movie Review

Dhoom 3
Iqbal (Jackie Shroff) who owns the great Indian Circus In Chicago is in debt and loses everything to the bank, even his last attempts fails and the bank closes the circus. He commits suicide before his son Sahir.Over the years Sahir (aamir khan) plans and takes revenge on the bank by stealing their branches one by one. In comes Jai Dixit ( Abishek) and Ali (udhay Chopra) to help the Chicago police on this case. Meanwhile Sahir revives the Great Indian circus and multitasks as the thief robbing the rest of the banks making it bankrupt. How close does he comes to completing his revenge is the rest of the story.
Its Aamir all the way in Dhoom 3 . His charismatic acting and screen presence blurs everything else in the film. Physically he has taken so much trouble for his character. Katrina kaif is stuns everyone in the two songs but disappears in thin air after that. This films doesn’t require Abishek and udhay Chopra as they just stand and deliver mugged up dialogues, they were just included as this is a dhoom franchise.if you were expecting fast bikes, screeching tires and incredible chase sequences and sexy girls all over , Dhoom 3 gives you bit of everything but doesn’t keeps you in the edge of your seat.A predictable climax and a dragging second half makes the audience disappoint. i give the film 5/10
