Transcendence – movie review

transcendence

Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions.  His experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology group .On the day of one of his presentations the Anti-technology group creates a mass attack on every single person/ company working on this kind of research. With most of them dead and Will Caster poisoned by a radioactive bullet with only weeks to live, his wife and friend try to finish his experiment by uploading his collective intelligence in a machine in a process to revive the experiment and him. Wants happens next forms the rest of the story.

If not for Johnny Depp playing the lead character for this film would have been a B-grade sci fi movie, which would be running in AXN for the next couple of years in random. But even with Depp in this film it might only pull the crowd for a one time viewing . As the story line has nothing new, very dull and boring dialogues. Most of the cast act like robots with dead faces and expressions. With just a few good scenes with good CGI, this film just looks good in the trailer. I give it 3/10

Thenaliraman – Movie review

Thenaliraman
VaigaiPuyal Vadivelu returns to Silver Screen with this periodic film. The film’s story starts with Kingdom of Vigada nadu’s future is in danger as its council of eight ministers are conspiring against the king and its people with the help of the neighboring Chinese traders. When a honest minister is killed a opprutunity rises for a replacement , Thenaliraman a common man with his brilliance and wits takes the job.We soon find out that he is from a radical group which wants to dethrone the king and his mission is to kill him.But Thenaliraman slowing comes to know that the king is not be blamed but the his ministers are the ones who are swindling the money and depriving the people of their benefits.Unforyunately the king finds out that he has come to kill him and banishes him. How Thenaliraman save the king and the kingdom forms the rest of the story.
Right from the word go Vadivelu takes charge of the film and carries it on the shoulders till the end.He performs well as Thenaliraman and as the king with ease and his brilliant body language .Even though everyone as read the story of wits of Thenaliraman , the director and the actor have brought it and made it special onscreen. The rest of the cast have supported Vadivelu well but is completely overshadowed by his on-screen brilliance. The only actor who doesn’t gel is Meenakshi dixit as the princess , maybe a pure tamil speaking actress would have made a difference.Imman music matches well but lacks strength, Prabhakaran’s effort as the art director should be applauded , he has really taken us back to the period with his amazing production design . A complete family entertainment and kids will love it .An entertaining first half and a slow second half with a sudden end. I give it 5/10

Naan Sigappu Manithan – Movie review

naan sigappu manithan_002
The movie’s story revolves around Indhiran (Vishal) who has a incurable disorder called Narcolepsy (neurological sleep disorder). Despite of his disorder Indhiran tries to carry on a peaceful life but he is letdown by the society . He even provides himself to medical study to earn money and give his earning mother (Saranya )a rest . He finally starts to do jobs online which doesn’t bother his disorder . He meets Meera(Laskhmi Menon) who sees him beyond his disorder and falls in love with him. But a huge tragedy strikes them and leaves them distraught .How Indhiran takes revenge on the people who caused this tragedy past his disorder makes the rest of the story.
Vishal comes back with a similar role he played in Pandiyanadu , the fact that logic is not blown out to overcome disorder while playing this character makes the film strong. Director Thiru makes a simple story strong by creating good characters around it and doesn’t bore the audience. Lakshmi Memon proves that she is a good in each and every film and gives a fabulous performance . Jagan and Sundar ramu play well behind Vishal and provide him good backup. But while concentrating on story and characters the team provides very less entertainment to the audience. Jagan strikes a few comic notes here and there but is easily forgotten . The mass effect was missing in the whole film even though Vishal’s performance was good .Songs happen to disturb the flow in the film and provide audience with the same disorder in which the film is based on and the background score reminds the audience of Chirstopher Nolan’s Trilogy .The huge twist in the film in the second half doesn’t help the film but just increases the number of actors in the film. The simple first half was better than the overcooked second half. I give the film 4/10 .

Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavanigalum – Movie Review

OKMK

Chimbudevan ‘s love of portraying god and goddess in his movie continues has he starts the film by a mere question of how every minute can alter one’s fate asked by the sage Naradha towards the Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma . the Lords select Tamizh (Arulnidhi) life to prove their point. Tamizh’s beloved girlfriend Isabella (Ashrita) is forced into marriage with someone else by her father, and he is also in need of money for his mother’s operation. That’s when he is approached by Hippy Lahari (Nasser) who is Isabella father’s business rival to kidnap Isabella and teach her father a lesson. He calls two of his friends Malar (Bindu Madhavi) and Isaki (Bhagavathi Perumal) and formulates a plan. The story is told to us thrice with alternate endings, with each of it starting with a minute’s difference. How does the three endings unfold is the rest of the film.

Even though we have seen narratives with alternate endings, Chimbudevan has done a good job by giving details to every character, scene and takes the audience for a joyride. He hasn’t confused with complicated scenes but makes it simple and easy. Kathir’s cinematography brings everything together to screen and stamps his mark yet again. VFX by the WE VFX team is good and they have to be appreciated. The only problem is that each scene is stretched beyond its duration which makes it dull at the end of it. Arulnithi’s performance is fine but is timing in comedy needs to straightened, Bhagavathi Perumal with his casual one liners stands tall in the group. Bindu Madhavi‘s lip sync is huge problem but manages to gel with the ensemble. Repetitive narration is a complex idea ,but the team has done a decent job . I give the film 4/10
