Anegan – Movie review

Anegan poster B

Love across numerous lifetimes but each one ending in separation; how they will end up in this lifetime make the story of Anegan. Madhu(Amyra Dastur) is a game designer working in a huge gaming company owned my Ravikiran(Karthik) . Madhu and her colleagues who are under constant pressure on their jobs visit a psychologist recommended by their company. In her sessions she narrates her past lives involving her lover and how it ends tragically every time. She is stunned when she recognizes Ashwin(Dhanush) who joins their company as her lover from the past lives, Ashwin on the other hand, doesn’t recollect anything and dismisses Madhu’s stories. But they eventually fall in love, but that’s when history repeats itself and the lovers are tested again.

Dhanush seems to be the hero who cannot do anything wrong these days, He adorns four different looks in this film and performs wonderfully in each one of them. Especially His act as Kalli brings the whole theatre down and it’s a party when ‘Danga Maari’ comes in. Amyra does a decent job but she looks a little lost as she is always smiling and open mouthed. Veteran actor Karthik was a good choice in the film; this might mark his comeback into the movies. Cinematography was decent but graphic elements in the Song “Roja Kadale” makes the song look bad. Anegan has its twists and turns, but director has managed to make it simple to the audience. The best part is the film does not look longer for its 159 minutes of screen time which is huge plus. I give it 6/10

Yennai Arindhaal – movie review

The story revolves around Satyadev an honest cop , senseless death of his father provokes him to become a cop and brings people on the other side to justice. To expose a ruthless gang he befriends Victor ( Arun Vijay) but this friendship ends bad and Victor is arrested and sentenced to jail, but he vows revenge. During one of his investigations he meets Hemanika ( Trisha ) and dancer and a young mother , he falls in love with her and a romantic episode leads them marriage . Unfortunately Hemanika gets murdered and Satyadev is left with young daughter. He retires himself from his duties and becomes a full time father. What brings Satyadev back to his job and how he fights it the rest of the story.

Its all Ajit in Yennai Arindhaal, he steals the show right from the beginning . His style and looks mesmerises audience of all ages.he brings in the right emotions for his character throughout different stages of the film . Trisha plays a important role in the film and brings calmness in this violent film. Anushka in the very less screen time she has does what she has been told. Arun vijay has done a great job, you can see his dedication the way he portrays his character and delivers big time. Even though the story has flashbacks and years fly in minutes , the storytelling never confuses you thanks to Antony for his smooth editing. Dan Macarthur’s camerawork is amazing, his compositions had real essence whether it’s violence or romance. That said the whole film tends to remind of Kakka kakka and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu in most parts of the film.the only difference is they had very definitive story and this one just revolves around the base character and his life. The first half engages you but the second half is slow and dragging. Very lengthy dialogues interrupt the flow of actions sequences mainly in the second half.even though the BGM stands out in some areas the rest of the music and the songs doesn’t impress you. I give it 5/10

Isai – Movie review

The long awaited film of S J Surya ‘Isai’ finally hits theatres, He also has written, directed and has also composed the music for this movie. Vetriselvan (Sathyaraj) is a well-known conventional music composer, who has been ruling the musical industry for the past 20 years. Siva (SJ surya) Assits him in his orchestra. Even though Vetri selvan is termed as the best, his arrogant and egoistical nature doesn’t appeal to his coworkers. This makes way to Siva and he gets a chance to compose independently. His innovative music brings him lots success and soon dethrones Vetriselvan of his no: 1 spot. Not able to accept this change Vetriselvan devices a plan to bring him down. How Siva overcomes this is the rest of the story.

Even after his long absence SJ Surya still proves that he can deliver a decent film. His performance along with the Satyaraj keeps the audience engaged throughout the film. Satyaraj actually has more screen time than SJ Surya who captivates audience thru his versatile acting and dialogue delivery. New face Savitri who plays the love interest of SJ Surya has also done a decent job. Cinematography by Soundar was ornamental throughout the film .Even though the whole movie is about music, except for a couple of songs the music is a disaster. The BGM is unbalanced throughout the movie. The duration 3hrs and 10 min is also a major drawback for the film. Repetitive and lengthy scenes spoil the pace of the movie. 2nd half proves to be a better half of the film but leaves the audience in agony at the end of the film. I give the film 3/10
