Based on the auto biography of Capt. Gopinath ‘Simply fly’ , Soorarai Pottru is a dramatised version of the same by Sudha kongara . Nedumaaran Rajangam ( Surya) a son of Tamil teacher in village of Solavandhann , who aspires to get air connectivity to the remotest of the village in an affordable way. Maara undergoes quiet a roller coaster ride in this ordeal as he gets ruffed up by huge airline bosses who wants air travel only for the privileged and not for the common people. He goes into huge debts making enemies along the way . How Maara fights all the way and reaches his goal is the rest of the story.
It’s Surya and Sudha all the way in the movie, when the story mellows down its Surya who brings it up by his performance and Sudha’s script keeps it together all the way. On the cast its Surya who shoulders it towards the end, other than him Uravashi and newcomer Aparna give a balanced performance in the movie. The weaklings are the so called villain Paresh Rawal’s role is weak for his character and doesn’t bring the best in him. The story though based on the specific details doesn’t engage us all the way , reduction of duration might help in the flow. I give the film 6/10
