Vanamagan – Movie review

Story revolves around Jara( Jayam Ravi) a tribal whose community is threatened by the modern world and people who want to take over their land. When Jara manages to escape he has a accident and lands in hands of Kaavya ( Sayyesha) a rich and spoils heiress who comes to same island to celebrate the new year. Kaavya brings Jara to the modern world, to which his raw innocence and animal like behaviour makes Kavvya’s world upside down. As she manages to bring Jara under control , she also believes that she has get Jara back to his community. How she does that and how Jara get his people out of trouble is the rest of the story.
This is also one of Jeyam Ravi’s experiment in which most of the screen time is given to the female lead and he barely has any dialogue in the film. New comer Sayyeshaa gives a decent performance and shows that she can handle enough screen time. Jayam Ravi makes most of the character but I say it’s a waste for his talent and his caliber. Vfx and music end up crude and useless in the end without any creativity. Though initially comically and engaging, it becomes boring with a dull screenplay after the first hour. Predictable and unimaginative story gives Vanamagan just 3/10

Thondan – Movie review

Vishnu ( Samuthirakani) is a emergency Ambulance driver, who looks this as a public service more than a job. He his so committed that once patient is in his vehicle he makes it a point to get to the hospital on time. He even manages to turn his drunkard friend Vignesh into medical attendant and finds him a job. When he saves a man who left bleeding behind in a political murder, he earns the enemity of the local politician son Narayanan(Namo Narayanan). Things get more complicated when the politician brother ends up dead in his emergency vehicle when he is taken to the hospital for medical help. The politician owes to take revenge on Vishnu and his family . How Vishnu diverts the politician and manages to save is family is the rest of the story.
Though it was clear that this was going to be a film with Samuthirakani preaching non stop in the film, we thought there would be story to support it. But film lacks a decent screen play and wanders up and down loses it way. Samuthirakani even tries his hands in some romance , but fails miserably . Vikranth gives a decent performance, and so does Arthana who comes as Samuthirakani’s sister. First half is slow and picks up speed before the break. Second half is cluttered but ends decent . More messages but less story gives the film 4/10.

Aandavan Kattalai – Movie Review

c11184af-b234-4c9d-9e86-e41ce884383f

Gandhi (Vijay Sethupathy) is a young man living in a village near Madurai. His misfortunes in business leave him with lot of debt. To get out his debts he decides to go to Abroad to find a job and make money. He leaves with his close friend Paandi ( Yogi Babu) to Chennai to get a passport and apply his visa. Both of them get linked to a travel agent through his friend who falsifies his documents as a married man to get a London visa. Gandhi’s misfortunes follow him when he fails to get the visa and is stuck with falsified passport as a married man. He gets into more trouble to when he tries to clear his marital status, how he gets out of this is the rest of the story.

Manikandan gives us yet another story of desperation , but on the lighter note. The film is not just hilarious but also gives a slap in the face on the corrupt system and how the lower middle suffers from it day to day. Vijay Sethupathy along with a great cast delivers a wonderful performance throughout. Yogi babu’s performance is a notable one and you tend to miss him in the second half. Ritika singh’s lip sync was a problem but her acting shields that. Screen play is well balanced with lot of scenarios which the audience could relate to. With a flawless first half and a slow but steady second half Aandavan Kattalai gets 6/10

Kidaari -Movie review

image

Movie starts with Kombaiya Pandian ( Vela Ramamoorthy) the kingpin of Saattur is rushed to the hospital after an attempt on his life. Even his loyal right hand Kidaari ( Sasi Kumar ) is surprised and determined to find the person behind this murder attempt. We are taken into a series of past events of Kombaiya Pandian and Kidaari ‘s villainy narrated by Poiyalli ( Mu Ramamurthy) a close associate of Kombaiya Pandian . Who is behind the this attack ? and how Kidaari finds it is the rest of the story.

Yet another blood soaked story involving Sasikumar splashes onscreen, but this movie keeps you engaged with a decent screenplay executed well by debutant director Prasath Murugesan. Vela Ramamoorthy and Sasi Kumar are made for each other in the movie. Casting of other characters could have been done better as some looked very amateurish . Though Nikila Vimal’s role was childish and over acted , it brought a little brightness in this vengeful drama. Cinematography by Kadhir and music by Darbuka Siva supported the story well. But the never ending flashbacks and mediocre acting made it dull. The bound between Kombaiya pandian and Kidaari was not fully exploited. Sasi Kumar ‘s romance scenes with Nikila were terrible. I give it 4/10
