Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan (AAA) – movie review

Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan (AAA), directed by Adhik Ravichandran got released this week without much publicity. Film starts in Dubai inside the police head quarters where the story of Madura Micheal unfolds through an interrogation. Madura Micheal ( STR) a loyal rowdy working for the local don Senthamarai. Though Micheal is always looking for trouble, he loves Selvi (Sherya Saran) who lives in the same village. When Selvi tries to pull Michael away from his criminal life consistently but fails. But when Micheal decides to run away with Selvi, he is double crossed and captured. What happens in Micheal’s life after that is the rest of the story.
The story follows a single person life in two different time periods. First half starts promisingly , but the second half his total rubbish and waste of your time and towards the end makes one wonder why this movie came onscreen itself. STR is quiet good as Madura Micheal though the character has nothing new to offer. Sherya Saran looks old and miserable in her character. Tamannaah both bubbly and glamorous is fine but not enough role in the film.rest of the cast just tag along and stink in the same rubbish dump. It gets 1/10

Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion – Movie review

The most awaited conclusion of the Baahubali released this week , with around a whooping 8000 screens . Baahubali’s second installation continues with Kattappa narrating story of Amarendra Baahubali to his son Mahendra Baahubali. Awaiting his coronation, Amarendra is sent to tour the kingdom learn the current state of his people by Maharani Shivagami. Accompanied by Kattappa , Amarendra visits most of the kingdom and lands in the kingdom of Kuntala. He meets princess Devasena( Anushka) and falls in love. When Bhalladeva learns about this, he finds a way to manipulate this situation to his advantage and claims the throne. Even after claiming the throne he finds only Amarendra in the hearts of his mother and in the people of the kingdom. Soon he finds a way to kill Amarendra thru Kattappa and imprisons Devasena. How Mahendra Baahubali finds himself an army and fights Bhalladeva and becomes the King of Mahishmathi is the rest of the story.

While Baahubali the beginning had more action and was glorified in selling an idea, the conclusion has more content and story. All The characters were portrayed very well in the story and all the way entertaining while being predictable. This part was well dominated by Anushka and Ramya Krishnan who portray the two powerful women in the film. Rana too had a significant screen time and was powerful in his role.Satya raj too had a balanced screen time with Prabhas . Prabhas delivers casually and yet powerful throughout. Music and VFX were top notch once again mesmerising the audience all the way. At every stage the music lifts the spirit of the film and in the audience. Vfx team lead by R C Kamala kannan elevates the film on every frame and makes CGI seamless, the best we have seen in Indian cinema till date. Rajamouli and team have delivered an epic called Baahubali and made a mark in world cinema. I give it 7/10

Kaththi Sandai – Movie Review

image
The movie starts as container vehicle full of cash is apprehended by the Asst commissioner of police Tamizh Selvan ( Jaggapathi Babu)The cash given back to the state , the commissioner is promoted to Deputy commissioner. Enter Arjun ( Vishal ) comes new to town just to seduce Divya (Tamannaah) and make her fall in love with him. Incidentally Divya is also the DC Tamizh Selvan ‘s sister. What is Arjun real motives do why is he targeting them is the rest of the story.
Director Suraaj doesn’t have great repetition from his earlier films and it isn’t going the change after this film too. Just having a content for 20 mins of real film time ,he goes round and round with a stupid comedy scenes and mindless drama. With decent releases this year Vishal finishes with this complete nonsense. Soori embarrasses himself to the max, as Tamannaah who gave a decent performance in Devi, doesn’t do much. Vadivelu who gives a comeback through this film, manages to give us a few laughs but nothing new. Overall Kaththi Sandai fights with a blunt knife. Be sure to keep distance from this film. I give it 2/10

Devi – Movie Review

image
Krishna ( Prabhu deva) is an eligible bachelor who wants to love and marry an ultra modern girl. When his grandmother gets sick back in his village, he is forced into marriage to a village girl Devi ( Tamannaah ). distraught and ashamed to face his friends he and moves away and finds a new place to stay. He lands up in flat which was recently abandoned in which he moves in a hurry .He tries send his newly wedded wife back to the village buts all his ideas backfires. Things get little creepy when he finds his wife acting differently and a change in her personality. What changed her ? and how it changes his marriedĀ Iife , is the rest of the story.

After a making a series successful films as an director, Prabhu deva returns to main stream acting. His acting skills and his dancing skills is good as ever and his timing sense in comedy makes this horror comedy a watchable one. Tamannaah too makes a good effort in acting and even shows us she can dance better when an opportunity is given. Sonu Sood makes a extended cameo appearance but doesn’t shine.Sadly though the script had nothing new to offer, missing the usual spice in a horror comedy and turns out to be bland one. First half sails through but the second half starts fairly ,becomes slow and finishes blunt. Devi gets 4/10

Dharmadurai – movie review

image
Seenu Ramasamy is always known for his neat storyline and developing real Iife characters in his film. This film shows the life of young doctor and his different episodes in his life. Dramadurai (Vijay Sethupathy ) is introduced as an alcoholic doctor, who lives in his home town. He is an constant irritation to his brothers as he causes them shame . The brothers who run the local chit fund are ashamed of him a wants him thrown out, as he tells the villagers that they will cheat of their hard earned money. The only soul who understands Darma is his mother (Radhika Sarathkumar) who stands between the brothers. When the brothers decide to get rid of Darma , he runs from villages with his brothers clothes which also has the chit money of the villagers. Why does Darmadurai despise his brothers? What happens Darmadurai is the rest of the story.
The natural story line and extraordinary performances from the whole cast makes Darmadurai a clean hit. Vijay Sethupathy who carries the whole film on his shoulders, once again dazzles in his performance. Credit goes to the director and Vijay Sethupathy who execute memorable character. Three actresses lead by Radhika Sarathkumar, followed by Aishwarya Rajesh and Tamanna perform equally well. Songs support the film and move the film in elegance. Though very predictable the story never loses its composure. Though with 147 mins of running time, there are some scenes which slows down the pace drags you. Film feels as though it lacks a punch , though it doesn’t disappoint you it also doesn’t fully satisfy you. I give it 6/10

Thozha – Movie Review

image
A story of how a social misfit Seenu( Karthi), and a paraplegic millionaire Vikram ( Nagarjuna) mend their broken lives which were crippled by their past.Seenu who has been disowned by his family, is a petty criminal who has just come out of prison on parole. He is looking for a jobs which will show him as a social worker and get him a permanent release. Vikram a multi millionaire who has become a paralysed neck down after a paragliding accident, is looking for a caretaker. In world which sees him sympathetically , he chooses Seenu who looks at him beyond his handicap. How both their lives changes during this period, and how they help themselves is rest of the story.
Though a remake of the comedy drama “The Intouchables” , Thozha has its own flavour which makes it a feel good film for the whole family. Both Nagarjuna and Karthi carry the film in a smooth path. Karthi with his casual presence and improvement in comedy timing makes him a good choice for the role. Nagarjuna who has to use only his facial expressions for the role, shows his experience as a seasoned actor. Tamanna role was that of a glam doll and was kept to a minimum. Kudos for the team for binding the film with values rather than cheesy commercial elements. The strength of the film was also the weakness, as after a stage in the film you are left with same kind of melodramatic cloud which never comes down pouring. The audience wait for a change in the momentum , which never seen happens. Bgm plays a huge part , but the songs are dry and doesn’t work . Though the team manages to pull it off by decent but a predictable ending , duration of the film spoils the show. I give it 5/10
