Nenjil Thunivirunthal – Movie review

Kumar(Sundeep) and Mahesh( Vikranth) are close friends . Mahesh is aggressive in nature whereas Kumar wants to lead a simple life without any issues. Mahesh and Kumar’s sister Anu are in love and they keep their relationship in secrecy . Kumar cares for Mahesh so much that it often gets him into trouble too. Parallel to this, the city has a ruthless gang lead by Duraipaandi( Harish Utthaman) who just doesn’t do illegal stuff , but makes use of the situation to his development. Things get heated up when Mahesh gets in the way of a illegal Real estate business and he becomes a target for Durai paandi’s gang. How Kumar manages to sort out all of this is the rest of the story.
Director suseendharan is known for his films having a strong friend relation, a story revolving middle class families and a ruthless villain. This also has the same formula but with little twist. Sundeep is still in his moulding form so he has to learn more , but happy to know that he is choosing right roles. Vikranth does his role to perfection, pity he is just been used as a sidekick. Harish Utthaman is gritty and matches the role perfectly. Saying that the story lacks balance , it moves off course in between and comes back into play and finishes incomplete. Dialogues could have been better and planned with the sequence as they looked bold in between and pale in the rest. The whole love angle of Sundeep’s character was unnecessary and could have been totally avoided. Music is big letdown and doesn’t work out except for bgm in some scenes. Overall movie is fine but doesn’t satisfy the audience in the end. I give it 3/10

Dora – movie review

Dora Pavalakodi ( Nayanthara) and her dad live a happy life in the city, when she are ashamed by her Aunt, Pavalakodi and her father challenge them to beat them in their own call taxi business . They end up buying a car which is haunted by a dog’s spirit which wants to take revenge on three criminals. Initially though very disturbed by this , Pavalakodi soon finds out they she too is involved in this and she was chosen by the spirit to help take revenge. She agrees to help and rest is how they take revenge on the perpetrators.

Dora is one film which shows how a movie ,even with a good performer can be so bad. Though Nayanthara does her part , she is lost in this predictable and lousy horror / drama/ comedy film. Thambha Ramaiya ends up as an irritating character throughout the film . Though the story starts in the second half it has a stale screenplay with uneventful horror. Dora gets 2/10

Rekka – Movie review

rekka-movie-latest-posters-at-aayutha-pooja-celebrations-5

Siva ( Vijay Sethupathy ) is a do-gooder who helps lovers who face opposition from their families for marriage. On one such incident he crosses path with the local gangster David( Satish) and becomes his enemy. When Siva’s sister is about to get married, David uses this opportunity to distrupt the wedding and blackmails Siva into kidnapping his archenemy’s fiancée . Siva too agrees to the task since his sister’s future depends on it. Whether he completes the task and saves his sisters’ wedding is the rest of the story.

Branded as a commercial and an action flick, Rekka becomes the sixth film of Vijay Sethupathy to be released this year. Though the film balances the commercial elements and actions sequences , it’s fails miserably to form a straight story line and deviates . With an unnecessary subplot which takes us away from the main story and ends leaving the audience unsatisfied. For Vijay Sethupathy this is a walk in the park, he manages to sparkle occasionally but the weak storyline leaves him behind. KS Ravikumar manages to shine In between , other cast members were just fine. Worst comes from Lakshmi Menon who manages to make a fool of herself on screen by exaggerating her role by overacting. Songs are big minus and just drags the running time. Over all Rekka ends up raw and can’t be digested easily. I give it 3/10

Thani Oruvan – movie review

Thani-Oruvan-first-look-poster

Mithran ( Jayam Ravi) is idealist cop in search for a worthy adversary. While in training , he and his friends in the camp play vigilante at nights and solve crimes . But Mithran is behind the big fish , who always manage to manipulate and stay far away from the reach of justice. He rounds up them to three main  kingpins who are behind all these lawlessness. Once he takes charge , he chooses his team and begins to collect proof against them. While following these three, he Finally learns that they are controlled by a singular mind  -Siddarth Abimanyu ( Arvindswamy) a scientist and a millionaire who is always a step ahead. How Mithran brings this criminal mastermind to justice is the rest of the story.

Thani Oruvan  is not your usual cop movie, this intense thriller is different and always keeps you at your edge of the seat. This movie brings out M.Raja out of his remake stamp. He with the support of a strong screenplay from the magic Duo Suba the screen writers packs a punch. Jayam Ravi plays his role too perfection and executes his character well. If it’s Jayam Ravi in the first half its Arvindswamy in the second half. He plays his character very casually with a calm wickedness. Nayanthara play her part well , her role and scenes bring a brief relief to the dense subject. For once the songs where not a hinderance to the story even though they weren’t memorable. Cinematography by Ramji was notable and composed very well , his mono chromatic colours brings variety to his compositions. The only drawback is the length of the movie, it nearly 2hrs 45mins. I give the movie 6/10
