Dhanush’s Velayilla Pattathari opened this Friday marking this has his 25th film. This movie is directed by Velraj and music by Anirudh. As the title says this movie follows Raghuvaran (Dhanush) an engineering graduate who is waiting for his break in the engineering space, unlike his friends who have migrated into different ways. He his ridiculed by everyone, most by his father for being a unemployed and always compared to his brother who is growing in the IT industry. His only support comes from his mother who encourages him and believes his hard work will bear fruits one day. But being jobless and put to household work makes him frustrated and he often gets into trouble. Finally when he gets his break to prove himself he is put across several hurdles. How he gets past all the hurdles and triumphs forms the rest of the story.
Director Velraj has proved that with clean story and with the right concoction of commercial aspects one can give a hit. The scenes and dialogues where tailor made for Dhanush , who performs with ease in his role. The casting of Samuthiraikani and Saranya Ponvannan has Dhanush’s parents were the pick of the lot. Amala Paul is paired with Dhanush in the film, she looks as his elder sister in the beginning scenes. Since there is no scope for acting in her role she just manages to pull it off by the end of the movie. The main drawback is the villain’s casting as he worthless and doesn’t balance the hero. He doesn’t emote and is lost in the screen space. The first half seems to dragging and filled with repetitive scenes. The song creates a thump in the theatre but doesn’t stay in mind when the movie is over. One even thinks that the whole movie is just a mixture of all his previous 24 movies .Over all this movie brings back Dhanush in the front line who hasn’t given a commercial hit in the recent years. I give it 6/10
