The state government has come out with its Andhra Pradesh Gaming, Animation, Media and Entertainment (GAME) Policy 2014-19 for promoting the fast-emerging segment of IT sector. A Government Order to that effect was issued on Monday.
The gaming, animation, media and entertainment industry in the state has the advantage of having some of the major suppliers to the industry such as HP, AMD and NVIDIA located within Andhra Pradesh, more specifically Hyderabad. The state has a rich and diverse heritage of art and culture, and there is a great potential for the talent in the state to adapt to the animation and gaming sector.
So far, science and technical streams have been the preferred avenues of society for employment but the GAME sector will create better employment opportunities to arts stream. Entry of creative artistes into the animation & gaming industry is regardless of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. There is a requirement of nearly 70 percent of creative and artistic employees in this industry which will lead to the economic uplift of large strata of economically backward sections of society, especially in rural areas.
The Andhra Pradesh Gaming, Animation, Media & Entertainment Policy 2014-2019 has been framed with the objective of making Andhra Pradesh the most-favoured destination for investments in the sector; encourage and support appropriate manpower, infrastructure and business development; bridge the demand-supply gap in human resource in the sector; and attract top global companies in the field to the state.
Andhra Pradesh Animation and Gaming City will be set up initially in Hyderabad in an appropriate extent of land by the government through AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC). It shall have Incubation Centre, where state-of-the-art ‘walk to work’ and ‘plug and play’ built-up office space is provided at subsidised rates to first-generation technocrat entrepreneurs, SMEs engaged in GAME activities, and consist of all common amenities like housing, recreation, schooling, entertainment and medical.
The government shall make available the fiscal incentives including reimbursement of production cost of an animation film or gaming product (based on set guidelines/stipulations), up to a maximum of Rs 5 lakh per film.
