Satyagraha

Satyagraha

Dwarka Anand (Amitabh Bachchan) is a man of principles, A retired school headmaster, he lives with his son Akhilesh (Indraneil Sengupta) – an engineer and his Daughter in law. When Akhilesh is killed, Minister Balram Singh played by Manoj Bajpai publicly declares a hefty amount in compensation for Akhilesh’s widow, Sumitra (Amrita Rao). Eventually, after Sumitra is humiliated in the government office when approached for compensation, Dwarka Anand meets with corrupt and arrogant collector, whom he ends up slapping which leads to him being put behind bars. This starts of a social campaign that spirals into a bigger protest against the system by Akhilesh’s best friend Manav (Ajav Devgan) along with local youth politician Arjun(Arjun Rampal) and journalist Yasmin (Kareena Kapoor)

Amitabh Bachchan stills rules the Bollywood jungle, his screen presence and dialogue delivery still stuns you. He portrays his character with pride and dignity, another good performance by Manoj Bajpai as a corrupt and scheming, sly politician, but we have seen him do much better roles than this. Ajay Devgan is fine in his role but doesn’t completely fits the role, Arjun Rampal is far better actor to be just wasted in this film ,he is underutilized completely in this film. Kareena kapoor Actually doesn’t do much in the film, even her romance scenes with Ajay ends up boring. The first half creates a base for the story told but never actually completes it but rather drags to very predictable and a unconvincing ending. The film boosts off with realistic issues but ends with no decent resolutions for them. I give it 4/10
