After Earth

After escaping asteroid storm damages Cypher (Will smith) and Kitai’s (Jaden smith) craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon with a deadly predator “Ursa” chasing him.

M. Night Shyamalan returns to Hollywood by co-writing and directing this sci-fi film. Will smith with very little screen time gives most of the screen space & heroics to his son Jaden Smith .We follows the father and son into the now hostile earth which was very shown but with a fully evolved ecosystem , with new species of animals including ferocious lions , baboons and giant eagles. The earth’s unstable climate which makes the journey very challenging for our young hero.  And a Monster “Ursa “chasing him by smelling his fear. All well thought of ,but the script is very dull; the dialogues had to pulled out of the actors tongues and very really bad acting by Will smith. The first half breezes thorough but the second half could have been better. The worst technical team was the Art direction; for a futuristic theme the production design was hopeless, the aircraft looks as though being done with bandages and cheap plastic. The crash site is just filled with debris of white cloth. Not very impressive CGI but the matte painting and the ecosystem were done to their best. Cinematographer Peter Suschitzky has done a great job. Jaden smith as much to offer, hope to see him in a better movie .The climatic sequence was well done and is one of a few good sequences in the film. I give the film 5/10
